Smith Headed to State as Schultz falls short but sets school record

Romi Smith made the tough decision to miss her HS graduation ceremony so she could compete in the Long Jump at the Div. 3 Regional Track and Field meet at Massillon Perry HS on Friday and it turned out to be a great decision.  Not only did she finish in 4th place and qualify for this weeks State Meet but after receiving her 4th place medal on the podium with her graduation gown on she was able to make it back to school in enough time to walk across the stage when her name was read to receive her diploma.  The Div 3 girls Long Jump will take place on Friday afternoon at 1 PM at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Russell Schultz also competed in the Div 2 Regional at Lexington on Saturday in both the 1600 M and 3200 M runs.  While he did not qualify for state this weekend Russell set a new BR school record in the 1600 M run with a time of 4:26.  Unfortunately that record breaking time was only good enough for 7th place in the very tough field with the top 4 qualifying for State.
